The Westside varsity baseball team took the short trip on the bus to Creighton Prep on Monday, April 30th, 2018. Led by junior ace Joe Stegman’s complete game shutout, Westside handed Creighton Prep their fourth loss of the season by a score of 4-0. Senior Declan Cain said this was a big win at this point in the season.
“It means a lot,” Cain said. “Big dub. They were ranked second in the state.”
Westside added three insurance runs in the seventh inning of the game on a Logan Eickhoff ground ball that resulted in a wild throw, Eickhoff advancing to third, and Brian Leiferman bringing him in. Joe Stegman threw seven scoreless innings, struck out four batters, gave up three hits, and walked one. Senior Declan Cain scored the first run on a solo home run to left.
“I wasn’t trying to do too much,” Cain said. “I got a 2-0, low and in changeup, and just did what I could with it.”
Westside will play one more regular season game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. when they host Bellevue East.
